Oppisition Arguments Essay
Animals deserve the same rights as people because they can feel pain; therefore, everyone in the world should become vegetarians. Animals do not deserve the same rights as humans. If so then we should give plants and vegetables rights as well. We kill a lot more plants then we do animals, so I believe that everyone should eat strictly meat only. America should not act as a ââ¬Å"World Policemanâ⬠because it has enough domestic issues of its own to deal with. Even though America has a lot bases throughout the world, this does not mean that we are the world Policeman. We are just helping our allies so we could keep trading with these countries for natural Resources. Immigration should be allowed without any caps because it brings in skilled workers and increases the cultural variety of American Society. If we decided to take the cap off on immigration then we can see a lot more businesses hiring cheaper labor which means the unemployment percentage will go up and cause us to have another great depression. Parents should never be held responsible for the crimes of their juvenile children because children should be held responsible for their own actions, even if it means trying them as an adult. Parents should be held responsible for their kids because it is their job to raise them and look after them. If they were watching their kids then their kids probably wouldnââ¬â¢t be committing crimes. Beauty pageants are a fantastic way for young girls to increase their self-esteem, practice public speaking and cultivate their talents. Beauty pageants are one of the worst places for young girls to increase self-esteem. Youââ¬â¢re in a competition were all the contestants are trying to be the most beautiful of them all and will try to put you down to win.

Does Internet Increase Crime? Essay
In chapter 16, Oscar McLaren discusses how organized crime is ââ¬Å"invadingâ⬠the internet. One of Australiaââ¬â¢s leading figures in online law enforcement says that the internet has so many opportunities for crime, and he believes that there will be a debate on the benefit of the internet at some stage. Organized crime is the biggest threat online or at least is emerging as it. The criminal gangsââ¬â¢ preferred weapon is referred to as botnets, which are groups of computers that have been infected with small computer programs known as malware. Malware has been effective to the point where it even infected the Sydney Opera Houseââ¬â¢s site. Malware can basically take your computer away from you. The criminal who infected your PC, will essentially own it and most of the time, steal bank account info from you. The Australian police covertly took control of a criminal online marketplace that was being run from Australia. Some even have a ââ¬Å"delete, delete, deleteâ⬠policy to any unsolicited email. Det Supt Hay says, ââ¬Å"If everyone followed those three simple rules, that would reduce the chances of them falling victim online possibly as much as 80 per cent.â⬠Achieving internet safety is hard. Mr. Ingram claims that you canââ¬â¢t just go around telling people not to click on links that you donââ¬â¢t know the meaning of, which makes the internet redundant. Based on what is said, it would seem that Australia has problems with internet crime quite a bit. My opinion: I believe that organized crime on the internet is pretty major. I never thought about the whole malware thing. If I were to give my opinion before I read about the topic, I would say it had no major connections with the web. But, now I believe otherwise. If any criminal desired to, they could communicate with possible members of a criminal group. They could, like said, use malware to create botnets and connect thousands of random computers to their web of crimes. All it takes is a simple click of the wrong link and your computer is as good as theirs. The internet does indeed make crime easier. Who needs robbing a bank when you can steal a bank account from a little hideout with a computer, right? Although, shutting theà internet down is not a good solution. I am not saying it was presented as a choice, but the idea was brought up. I think more people use the internet for good, than bad. If anything, programs should be capitalized on that trace the location of a sent malware to find and apprehend a criminal. Police can track phones, why not computers? Crime on the internet will definitely grow uncontrollably. Even if they make a program to fight back, the criminals can use the internet to find another way to hack into a network of computers. It is best to just be very careful what you do, and watch what you download on the internet. Always scan what you are doing to ensure the safety of your computer, and you.

Difference Between Computer Literacy and Information Literacy Essay
1. Why is it important to understand the difference between computer literacy and information literacy? The difference between computer literacy and information literacy is as follows: Information literacy is the ability to access, organize, evaluate and use information from various sources. Computer literacy is having the knowledge to use technology in order to manipulate computer software or hardware. There is a strong correlation between the two, but they are still different. Both concepts use critical thinking, but information literacy goes beyond knowledge and access in learning more. To be clearer, with information literacy one is taking what has been read and learned and applying it. With computer literacy one can have the knowledge but not necessarily know how to use it or apply it. Basically, with information literacy one will take the knowledge to the next step by using the access to organize, use and evaluate what has been found. With computer literacy one has the technology to manipulate the computer, but they may not have the information to continue on through the process and derive a conclusion based on evaluations and organization. Computer literacy, if you want to think of it in steps, is the literacy before information literacy in which the person is on their way to gaining the extra knowledge they need in order to apply what is currently known. Information literacy also requires one to have awareness in how information systems work and the link between information need, sources and channels. An example would explain this easier. You can know how to use Google search, but unless you take it a step further such as knowing what you need, the sources and the channels to gain what you need you will be stuck with unhelpful answers. Certainly, you know you need keywords in a search engine, but unless you know what keywords you are stuck. This is the relationship between the two concepts. 2. Discuss the three elements of an information system (hardware, software and persware) that managers must consider. Which of the three do you consider the most important? Hardware: Is the physical aspect of computers, telecommunications, and other devices. The term arose as a way to distinguish the ââ¬Å"boxâ⬠and the electronic circuitry and components of a computer from the program you put in it to make it do things. Software: Software is a term for a set of instructions, which makes a computer to perform a task. The set of instructions are commonly known as a program, without which computers cannot do any operations. A software is classified broadly in to two groups, application software, which includes normal utility applications like Microsoft word, PowerPoint etc. that interacts and performs user specific tasks and system software, such as operating systems, which interacts directly with hardware to make the system work and also provide a platform for other applications to work. Persware: Defined as the people aspect of an information system, without this aspect of an information system the hardware and software components become computer literacy. The people who drive and run the information system also help to determine which types of data to collect, store and disseminate for reporting and analysis purposes. The three Components of information system talked about the input, processing, output and feedback processes. Most important is the feedback process; unfortunately itââ¬â¢s the one most often overlooked. Just as in the triangle above, the hardware (input and output) and the software (processing) receive the most attention. With those two alone, you have computer literacy. But if you donââ¬â¢t use the ââ¬Å"perswareâ⬠side of the triangle to complete the feedback loop, you donââ¬â¢t accomplish much. Add the ââ¬Å"perswareâ⬠angle with good feedback and you have the beginnings of information literacy. 3. Which of the six business objectives do you think is the most important? How can information systems help a business meet these objectives? The Six Important Business Objectives of Information Technology Product Development Information technology can speed up the time it takes new products to reach the market. Companies can write product requirement documents by gathering market intelligence from proprietary databases, customers and sales representatives. Computer-assisted design and manufacturing software speed up decision making, while collaborative technologies allow global teams to work on different components of a product simultaneously. From innovations in microprocessors to efficient drug delivery systems, information technology helps businesses respond quickly to changing customer requirements. Stakeholder Integration Stakeholder integration is another important objective of information technology. Using global 24/7 interconnectivity, a customer service call originating in Des Moines, Iowa, ends up in a call center in Manila, Philippines, where a service agent could look up the relevant information on severs based in corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas, or in Frankfurt, Germany. Public companies use their investor relations websites to communicate with shareholders, research analysts and other market participants. Process Improvement Process improvement is another key IT business objective. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems allow managers to review sales, costs and other operating metrics on one integrated software platform, usually in real time. An ERP system may replace dozens of legacy systems for finance, human resources and other functional areas, thus making internal processes more efficient and cost-effective. Cost Efficiencies Although the initial IT implementation costs can be substantial, the resulting long-term cost savings are usually worth the investment. IT allows companies to reduce transaction and implementation costs. For example, the cost of a desktop computer today is a fraction of what it was in the early 1980s, and yet the computers are considerably more powerful. IT-based productivity solutions, from word processing to email, have allowed companies to save on the costs of duplication and postage, while maintaining and improving product quality and customer service. Competitive Advantage Cost savings, rapid product development and process improvements help companies gain and maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. If a smartphone competitor announces a new device with innovative touch-screen features, the competitors must quickly follow suit with similar products or risk losing market share. Companies can use rapid prototyping, software simulations and other IT-based systems to bring a product to market cost effectively and quickly. Globalization Companies that survive in a competitive environment usually have the operational and financial flexibility to grow locally and then internationally. IT is at the core of operating models essential for globalization, such as telecommuting and outsourcing. A company can outsource most of its noncore functions, such as human resources and finances, to offshore companies and use network technologies to stay in contact with its overseas employees, customers and suppliers.

Comparison of Two Art Pieces Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Comparison of Two Art Pieces - Research Paper Example They also have the intention to design and develop programs that are supposed to connect art with the people2. This will increase the cultural value to the people. The Denver Art museum houses the Berger collection where they have put a selection of the artworks on display. The art is put there on a rotating basis. Drags of the Four-in-Hand Club, mid-19th century This painting was done by Samuel Henry Alken in the 1810 to the 1894 in oil and canvas. It is a forty by sixty centimeter painting that shows seven people riding on a horse drawn carrier. The painting depicts the number of drags for the coaches that were being used in the four in hand, driving horses which were racing in a corner that was extraordinarily tight on their way to the finishing line. The carriers that were being used in these paintings were exceedingly dangerous to ride in more so when they were being used for racing purposes3. The racing sport was based on the design of the coaches which were mostly ordinary one s, built the owners had to modify them in to enable them to ride fast and be able to win races. The modification on the coaches was done to improve the speed and also to make them lighter in any way they could make sure that they were made lighter. The sport also was to gauge the skills of the riders, the level of accuracy that the riders had to be able to ride the coaches fast and how they were able to win races. The sport was at the same time awarded prizes to the winners of the race and the horses which came first in the race could be sold at highly expensive prices. The sport was established in the 1856 by the four in hand club, and the sport was mostly held in London the Hyde Park. On this painting, the coaches of the club are drawn while they are racing through the five bells tavern in the south of London. As the sport started to become popular it started to spread around the world, and it also evolved to a modern sport that was called the drag racing sport. People enjoyed par ticipating in this kind of sport, and it later emerged to be a sport where people showed their ability to be powerful. The main participants in the sport were the Duke of Sutherland and the Lord Lonsdale who liked to participate on a regular basis. Samuel Henry Alken was born in a family of painters he lived from 1810 to 1894. The Peregrine (later renamed The Royal Caroline) in Two Positions off the Coast, 1766 The painting by John Cleveley who had worked as a carpenter earlier on in his life, He started a carrier as a full time painter in 1747 where he released several paintings. In this painting, he shows one of the royal yachts which were called the peregrine in two views. The yacht was built in late 1960s and was named after the person who designed it. Then in the year 1711 the yacht was converted to be used by Queen Anne, and it was renamed to the royal Caroline by George4. This yacht was used by the queen and family to travel the world. The painting was drawn years later after it had been removed out of service by Cleveley who had worked in one of the dockyards that was being used by the royal family as a carpenter. He developed his passion for drawing from his carpentry job. Conclusion The two paintings represent people who entered in to the painting profession because they had a passion for drawing different inventions. Samuel Henry had seen how the designers of the coaches had been able to design the coaches

Discuss the ways in which individuals and communities demonstrate Essay
Discuss the ways in which individuals and communities demonstrate agency in their lives - Essay Example Agency facilitates the way the individualââ¬â¢s negotiates their lifestyle particularly through interpersonal dialogues. Some may however not use interpersonal dialogues but settle on constructing their lives ââ¬Å"spacesâ⬠individually, and avoiding linguistic interactions and interpersonal dialogues entirely. Nevertheless, it is vital to note that individualââ¬â¢s demonstration of agency later on forms the building blocks of a community. This is because individuals are community agents since they express their thoughts on cultural matters to other people. Through agency, people are able to carry out face-to-face conversations with people from other communities. This has an impact on either side of the communities since culture is a negotiated meaning (Gutman 5). Being a negotiated meaning, a cultural forum in which the culture is negotiated and re-negotiated is what makes and remakes the culture and the community. This therefore supports the earlier argument that throug h agency, individuals are not passive recipients of community outcomes. Through agency, individuals are able to engage in cultural construction (Gutman 6). Another demonstration of agency is seen in babies. ... This could also mean that the adults from the children could also be the same. Children therefore exploit the meaning they derive from the pre- existing culture to build their own understanding of the world that later on helps them or destroys them as adults. Based on this argument, it is evident that agency plays a vital role in shaping up the future of individuals. For instance, if an individual is given to express his/her opinion of an event, the person will be treated by the other based on the opinion. There is also a probability that the individual may influence others in the process. The opinion may have been constructed from the way the individual views the society from his/her own small world. Agency also influences personal behavior among individuals. The various changes in personal behavior evolve with time and it determines the way people respond to different circumstances. The changes in individual behavior lead to changes in the culture of a society. Some individuals vie w them as suggestions meaning they can be ignored, circumvented or disregarded (Gutman, 6). Through agency, cultural influences have no power over individuals unless they allow them to have power over them. Gutman (7) concluded that the depiction he had of Mexican men was wrong. This is because what he saw was different from what he had the society expected of Mexican men i.e. the men were hard drinkers and philandering macho men. This therefore shows that the men had evolved and developed their own views and goals different from the overall depiction of community as seen by outsiders. The limiting factor in the argument above is the lack of empirical data to measure the extent of ignoring or circumventing the cultural influences in the above case. Furthermore, the

Corporate environmental management (Business Subject) Assignment - 2
Corporate environmental management (Business Subject) - Assignment Example Although the history and evolution of a concept might seem unimportant, it could help us predict the future trend and flaws that will appear. If it can be remembered the 1972 conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden, attended by 113 states and representatives from 19 international organizations, was the 1st truly international conference devoted exclusively to environmental issues. There a group of 27 experts articulated the link between environment and development stating although in individual instances there were conflicts between environment and economic priorities, they were two sides of the same coin (Reinhardt & Vietor, 1969). Another result of the Stockholm conference was the creation of the United Nations Environmental Programme {UNEP} which has the mission to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and people to improve their future generations? It should be noted that the term corporate environment management is a means by which companies and government departments act to realize their impacts on the environment and therefore work to improve their performance in this area through encouraging their suppliers, customers and partners to act the same way. You will discover that in the world the Hong Kong Government has undertaken initiatives since 1994 to improve its green management. The private sector has also been urged to follow suit (Darabaris, 2007) . My opinion is that the Starkist managers made a right decision because it was a move aimed at ensuring sustainability as advocated for by the Brundtland commission. Sustainable utilization of the environment is one of the issues that are currently making headlines on environment issues. In the day to use of environment to meet the daily needs there is need to take into account future generation, what is described as

Respond to each question with 100 words or more Assignment
Respond to each question with 100 words or more - Assignment Example The same also applies to someone who joins groups to cause havoc or disunity in a society. Therefore, a person has a right to intervene if somebody does immoral things along these lines and many other instances. Ethics is like nutrition. General nutritional information forms part of peopleââ¬â¢s everyday stock of knowledge. For example, people do not have to consult a physician to discover that the ice cream cone is not as healthful as fresh garden salad. They already know that ice cream is less nutritious. Similarly, they know that it is morally wrong to torture a baby. Still, both fields have specialists that dedicate their entire life attempting to provide and refine a solid base for the daily beliefs that people already know. Sometimes, nutritionists come across surprising things like the benefits of fish oil. Sometimes they discover harmful nutritional practices. At other times, they just confirm what people already know, although they do this in a manner that lends more solid foundation to the beliefs. A similar pattern exists in the relationship between what professional ethicists do and peopleââ¬â¢s daily moral convictions (Hinman 1). Ethical professionals would sometimes disc over an ethical belief that seems to be dangerous. They may also discover a moral practice that is beneficial to people. At other times, they report a belief that people already know in their everyday lives and build more foundation for the belief. An ethical egoist is a person that always wants to act in his/her self-interest. The person follows ethical egoism theory, a consequentialist theory that purports to tell people to live according to their self-interest. The ethical egoist believes that the rightness or wrongness of their acts relies on their consequences. They hold on to the belief that right actions encourage self-interest while wrong acts detract from self-interests. I would not be friends with ethical egoists. Ethical egoism does not promote good morals,
